Ad Creative Sizes for Facebook, Instagram, TikTok & Google (2026 Cheat Sheet)

Updated September 3, 2026

The single most common avoidable mistake in ecommerce ads is running one square image everywhere. A feed ad, a Story, a Reel and a Google display slot are different shapes, and a stretched or letterboxed creative quietly kills performance. Here is the current, practical cheat sheet for Shopify sellers — the sizes and aspect ratios that actually matter in 2026, and which ones to make first.

The short answer: make three shapes and you cover ~90% of placements — 1:1 (1080×1080) for feeds, 9:16 (1080×1920) for Stories/Reels/TikTok, and 4:5 (1080×1350) for the tallest feed placement. Add a landscape 1.91:1 for Google display and link ads. If you only make one, make the 1:1.

The cheat sheet

Platform / placementAspect ratioPixel sizeNotes
Instagram / Facebook feed (square)1:11080×1080The safe default; renders everywhere
Instagram / Facebook feed (portrait)4:51080×1350Takes more vertical screen than 1:1
Stories & Reels (IG/FB)9:161080×1920Keep text/logos out of the top & bottom ~14%
TikTok in-feed video9:161080×1920Full-screen vertical; sound-on, fast hook
Google display (landscape)1.91:11200×628Also the Facebook link-ad image
Google display (square)1:11200×1200Pairs with the landscape asset
YouTube Shorts9:161080×1920Same master as Reels/TikTok

What actually matters beyond the numbers

The fastest way to produce all the sizes

Making every size by hand in Canva is the slow path — it's per-placement, per-product, every time. If you sell on Shopify, an ad maker that runs inside your admin can do much of the work from one product in a single pass. AdCreator AI, for example, builds a finished 1080×1080 creative from a Shopify product and writes per-platform copy at the same time; on paid plans it also makes narrated video in 9:16. Static 4:5 and 9:16 versions you still crop from the square yourself. It's a newer app (few reviews yet), free to trial — see it on the Shopify App Store. FAQ

What size should a Facebook ad be?

1080×1080 (1:1) is the safe default for feed; 1080×1920 (9:16) for Stories and Reels; 1200×628 (1.91:1) for link ads and the right-column/display placement.

What's the best size for a TikTok ad?

1080×1920, 9:16, full-screen vertical video. Keep the hook in the first second and the important content out of the top and bottom UI zones.

Can I use the same image for every platform?

You can, but you shouldn't — a 1:1 square stretched into a 9:16 Story wastes screen and looks off. Make at least a square and a vertical master.

What aspect ratio converts best for Shopify product ads?

For most stores, vertical video (9:16) drives the most reach on Reels/TikTok, while 1:1 and 4:5 statics carry the feed. Test both rather than assuming.
